TOWSON, Md. — The Towson University women's track and field team will host their annual Towson Invitational at Johnny Unitas® Stadium from April 1-2.
A total of 25 teams, including Towson, are set to participate in the meet between both days of competition.
The Tigers won last year's home meet with a total of 2017 points to beat out Delaware (155) in second. The team ended with 15 top three finishes including nine first place outcomes.
Last Time Out
The Tigers competed in NC State's Raleigh Relays from March 24-26. The Tigers landed three student-athletes in the top 10 in the highlt competitive meet.
Hayley Horvath place third in the Pole Vault Invitational with a season best height of 4.15 meters.
Crystal Johnson placed eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.73. Sydney Tucker followed in 22nd (11.93). Cristal Cuervo led the Tigers in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24:49 to place 13th. Johnson followed in 18th, clocking 24.597. With a time of 25.51, Sydney Tucker finished in the 56th spot.
In the hammer throw, Georgia Coleman took 10th place out of over 52 throwers with a mark of 56.36 meters. Fatimah Owens finished in 34th in the discus with a mark of 40.62 meters.
Fresh Faces
The Tigers welcomed 10 freshmen to the team in Cristal Cuervo, Lacey Fowler, Deneé Hibbert, Sara Kindbom, Mia Martinez, Alexis Mogensen and Aubrey Schaffer.
Transferring In
Transfers Najae Nickerson (Mount St. Mary's), Taylor Robinson (Marshall), Chalys Caruth (Mount St. Mary's), Amanda Tony (Alvernia) and Emmeline Klefaas (North Greenville) also all joined the Tiger family for the upcoming slate.
Looking Ahead
Up next, the Tigers will split next weekend between the Aggie Invitational (April 8-9) at North Carolina A&T and the Mason Spring Invitational (April 9) at George Mason.
Tigers in the Community
For the 7th consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. The Tigers won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
