TOWSON, Md. – Three players from the Towson University men's basketball team have been recognized on the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Conference Teams, including two Tigers landing on the All-CAA First Team.
Cam Holden and
Nicolas Timberlake earned All-CAA First Team recognition while
Charles Thompson was placed on the All-CAA Second Team. In addition, Holden and Thompson were chosen for the CAA All-Defensive Team.
This is the first time in program history where two Tigers earned All-CAA First Team in the same season. Holden and Timberlake are the third and fourth Towson players to ever earn All-CAA First Team selections and first since Jerrelle Benimon earned his second First Team honor in the 2013-14 season.
In addition, three All-CAA players tie for the most in one year in program history, with Towson having three all-conference players during the 2013-14 campaign.
The trio have been instrumental in Towson's path to a share of the CAA regular season title. The Tigers stand 24-7 overall and 15-3 in the CAA, earning the most amount of regular season victories against DI opponents in a single season. Towson's regular season title is the first for the program since the 1993-94 season.
Holden stands in the top-10 in the CAA in several categories, including scoring, rebounding, assists and steals per game. The Forsyth, Georgia native is averaging 13.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, three assists and two steals a contest, earning 10 double-doubles and 23 games with double-digit scoring. Holden led Towson in rebounding in 16 games, including the first seven of the year. This is his second straight year as an all-league player, being 2020-21 All-Ohio Valley Conference Second Team while with UT Martin last year.
Timberlake earns his first-ever all-conference award, adding to his trophy case after being the 2019-20 CAA Sixth Man of the Year. The Braintree, Massachusetts native is fifth in the CAA with 14.3 points per game, having earned double digit points in 24 of 31 games played this season, also standing in the top-7 in each free throw and three-point field goal percentage. He led Towson in scoring nine times, earning five 20+ point contests, plus was a member of the Las Vegas Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Thompson also is a first-time all-conference honoree, landing on the CAA All-Defensive Team for the second consecutive season. The Fort Washington, Maryland native has the second-best field goal percentage in the CAA at 62.6%, including 65.9% in league play, earning 10.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, the latter two in the top-10 in the league. Thompson has picked up five double-doubles and 18 double-figure scoring games this season, being 10
th in the league with 13.7 points per game in CAA contests.
In the major awards, two Hofstra players were honored: Aaron Estrada is the CAA Player of the Year while Zach Cooks in the Sixth Man of the Year. Drexel also had two major award winners: Amari Williams was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year while Matey Juric was picked for the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award. Delaware's Jyare Davis is the Rookie of the Year while Takayo Siddle is the Coach of the Year.
Towson is preparing for the upcoming CAA Tournament. 1-seed Towson will take on the winner of William & Mary and Northeastern on Sunday, March 6 at 12 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
