TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team defeated Delaware State, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Towson Tennis Complex.
 
The Tigers earned the doubles point winning two of the three sets. Head coach Jamie Peterson changed his lineup, pairing Themis Haliou with Lea Kosanovic for the first time. They clinched the point with a 6-3 victory at No. 1. Amelia Lawson and Jessica Assenmacher were victorious at No. 2.
 
Del State took a 2-1 lead with straight wins on courts 2 and 6. Haliou evened things up with a straight set victory at No. 1.
 
The Tigers then won three three-set matches to earn the victory. Assenmacher (No. 3) won 6-2 in the deciding set to put Towson ahead 3-2. Sarah Pospischill (No. 4) clinched the match, winning the third set 6-1. Sissi Axelsson battled back to win her match at No. 6. The freshman dropped the opening set 6-2 then won a tiebreaker to force a third set where she won 6-3.
 
"The team did a really good job of handling adversity today and maintaining energy through a very challenging match," Peterson said. "We were able to win three tough three-set matches against a really feisty team. We are a bit beat up as well but kept our focus on what we needed to do to win."
