TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team prevailed over Morgan State on Thursday afternoon, 4-2.
"I am so proud of the team for how they competed," head coach Jamie Peterson said. "Especially coming out and winning the doubles convincingly, which was huge to start the match. Themis won another match that changed the moment in our favor and Sarah closed out another one. A very well-deserved win for Towson."
The Tigers won all three doubles matches to secure the first point of the match and take the 1-0 lead. After the pair of Sissi Axelsson/Olivia Rothfeld earned the dominant 6-1 decision on court No. 3, the duo of Jessica Assenmacher/Amelia Lawson sealed the point with another 6-1 win.
Lawson kept them momentum going, with a convincing straight set win on court No. 2 (6-0, 6-1). The Tigers then dropped two matches before Haliou came out with a victory on the first court (7-5, 6-4) to put the team ahead, 3-2. Once again, it was Sarah Pospischill who came in clutch for the Black & Gold to clinch the match win with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory on court No. 4.
