TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team closed out its regular season on a high note, defeating Saint Joseph's 6-1 on Senior Day. The team was dominant, winning the doubles point and going up 5-0 without dropping a single set.
"Today was a solid team performance going into the conference tournament and a special day for the seniors," said head coach Jamie Peterson. "The team performed really well on their big day."
Themis Haliou/Lea Kosanovic got things going with a win on the top doubles court, 6-1. Sissi Axelsson/Olivia Rothfeld clinched the doubles point on court No. 3 with a dominant 6-0 victory.
Amelia Lawson carried the momentum into singles play, with a big win on court No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) to put the team ahead, 2-0. After the Tigers dropped the decision on the final court, Sarah Pospischill picked up a win on court No. 3, 6-2, 6-4, to make the score 3-1.
Senior Assenmacher clinched the match win for the Tigers on Senior Day with a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court No. 3. Haliou (7-6, 6-3) and Rothfeld (0-6, 6-1, 6-3) rounded out the day with wins to give Towson the 6-1 win in its last match of the regular season.
