Tiger Title IX 50th Anniversary Team - First Five Student-Athletes

We begin our announcement of the Tiger Title IX 50th Anniversary Team.  Every Thursday beginning on June 9th, Towson Athletics will release five student-athletes and one staff member for the next 10 weeks, with the total team being complete on Aug. 11th.

June_9_Audrey_MorseAudrey Morse '75 (Tennis): Arguably Towson's all-time top female tennis player, Audrey was unbeaten as a Tiger for two years before turning professional in 1973 when she won the first of three Mid-Atlantic Tennis Association's singles titles. A four-time Maryland State women's singles champion, she joined the Baltimore Banners of World Team Tennis in 1974. She would later return to Towson to coach the men's team for one season.






June_9_Leigh_Buck_BradleyLeigh Buck Bradley '75 (Lacrosse/Field Hockey): A two-sport athlete Leigh excelled in lacrosse and field hockey at Towson. She was a member of both the U.S. Field Hockey team and the U.S. Women's Lacrosse team. She later coached at various camps in the mid-Atlantic region and served as athletics director at Garrison Forest School. 







June_9_Susan_Hill_GebhardtSusan Hill Gebhardt '78 (Swimming): A summa cum laude graduate Sue set numerous records in the breaststroke (50, 100 and 200) and freestyle (50, 100, 200 and 500) events. Highly decorated, she was twice named Towson's Female Athlete of the Year (1977 and 1978). She was also honored as recipient of the Souris Award and the prestigious Academic Achievement Award.






June_9_Karen_MaisenholderKaren Maisenholder '80 (Volleyball/Softball): The first female student-athlete to receive an athletic scholarship at Towson, Karen was a two-sport standout. She led the Tigers to the program's first-ever volleyball title when Towson took the 1979 MAIAW championship. She batted a team high .365 for the softball team. In 1980 she became the first volleyball player to be recognized as the Tigers' Female Athlete of the Year.






June_9_Stephanie_Roche_WillsonStephanie Roche Willson '80 (Basketball): The first Towson woman to score over 1,000 career points, Stephanie led the Tigers to the 1979 EAIAW Division II title. Twice named first team All-State, she is the only player during the 1970's to score over 1,000 career points (1,044) and remain ranked among the all-time top 10 players in any career statistical category: (10th in rebounding 683 and 6th in FT% .788). She was honored as Towson's 1979 Female Athlete of the Year.





June_9_Margo_VerKruzenMargo VerKruzen (Coach): For 25 years Margo coached various women's sports including basketball, field hockey, softball and volleyball. Under her direction the Tigers won the 1973 Maryland State Women's Basketball title. She guided the softball team to a perfect 6-0 record in softball in Towson's first season of East Coast Conference play. From 1975-79 she served as an associate athletics director.
