Runk Honored as John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievement Honoree for Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame

TOWSON, Md. – Longtime Towson University men's lacrosse coach Carl Runk has been recognized as the John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievement Honoree for the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame (MDSAHOF) Class of 2022, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
 
Runk spent 31 years as the men's lacrosse head coach from 1968 to 1998, leading the Tigers to 262 victories, the 1974 NCAA DII national championship, a 1991 NCAA DI title game appearance, 13 NCAA Tournament berths and six East Coast Conference titles.  The 1974 USILA Coach of the Year was inducted into the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.
 
Later, Runk also won a pair of lacrosse state championships as the head coach of Hereford High in nearby Parkton.  He also was Towson's first-ever football coach, serving in that role from 1969-71, taking the Tigers to a 6-2 record in 1970.
 
The class will be officially inducted on Thursday, October 13th in Baltimore.
 
Runk is part of the MDSAHOF Class of 2022 along with Len Bias, Dave Cottle, Leon Day, Darryl Hill, Fred McNair IV, Marty West III and Gary Williams. 
 
The MDSAHOF was founded in 1956 and includes over 250 people, with the Steadman Award being established in 1997 to honor coaches, media members and more.  Past recipients of the Steadman Award include Towson alum and longtime baseball executive John Schuerholz.
