Balanced Effort Leads Towson Women's Basketball Past Abilene Christian 63-56

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball took on the Abilene Christian Wildcats in the first day of the Nacy Classic. The Tigers (2-1) defeated the Wildcats (2-2) 63-56 on Saturday afternoon.

Kylie Kornegay-Lucas led the Tigers with 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals. Quinzia Fulmore added a season-high 14 points on 6-of-11 (54.5%) shooting.

  • Towson grabbed 13 offensive rebounds which led to a season-high 17 second chance points.
  • The Tigers shot 41.5% from the field while the Wildcats finished with 37.7%.
  • Towson finished with a season-high 11 steals with four different Tigers having two or more.
  • Aspen Thornton led Abilene Christian with 16 points, shooting 4-of-5 (80%) from behind the arc.
 
How It Happened vs Abilene Christian:
  • The Wildcats opened the first quarter on a 7-2 run with Towson's only points coming from a Quinzia Fulmore layup.
  • Both teams traded baskets as the Wildcats grew their lead to seven, before the Tigers responded with an 11-0 run led by Kylie Kornegay-Lucas's four points.
  • Aspen Thornton made a three-pointer as time expired to tie the score at 14 heading into the second quarter.
  • Both teams started the second quarter by exchanging baskets until Towson went on a 6-0 run highlighted by an Alina Sendar three-pointer to give the Tigers a 23-19 edge with 6:17 left.
  • Abilene Christian countered with a 5-0 run to regain the lead, but Aminta Diakite made consecutive jumpers to give Towson a 27-24 advantage.
  • The Wildcats finished the second quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room.

  • Nelson drained a mid-range jumper to restore a seven-point advantage.
  • Thornton made a layup with 48 seconds left, but the Tigers' defense held strong as two free throws by Kornegay-Lucas sealed a 63-56 win for Towson.

Inside the Numbers vs Abilene Christian:
  • Aminata Diakite had six points on 75% shooting off the bench while Gabby Scott tied a career-high eight rebounds.
  • Towson finished perfect from the free throw line (6-of-6) for the first time since last season against Delaware on February 3rd.
