Towson Women's Basketball Defeats American 68-60 to Win Six Straight

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson University women's basketball team took a trip to the nation's capital to take on the American Eagles. The Tigers (7-1) were victorious 68-60 over the Eagles (2-7) on Sunday afternoon.

Quinzia Fulmore finished with her third double-double of the season with 15 points and ten rebounds. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas earned her first double-double of the season with ten points and ten rebounds. 
 
Key Stats vs American:
  • Towson finished with 20 points off 21 American turnovers.
  • The Tigers won the rebounding battle 44-33.
  • Towson had 19 second points on a season-high 22 offensive rebounds.
  • Lauren Stock led American with 13 points and seven rebounds.
 
How It Happened vs American:
  • The Eagles started the first quarter with a 6-2 run, but the Tigers countered with eight consecutive points to take a 10-6 edge.
  • American tied the score at ten, but another 8-0 run led by India Johnston's back-to-back threes gave Towson a 18-10 lead.
  • The teams exchanged layups to finish the first quarter with the Tigers leading by eight.
  • Both teams opened the second quarter with small runs, before the Eagles cut the deficit to four after a 5-0 run.
  • Towson countered by scoring six of the following nine points led by Quinzia Fulmore's two layups to have a 30-24 edge.
  • American finished the second quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the scoreline at 30 apiece heading into the locker room.
  • The teams battled back and forth to start the third quarter, but back-to-back triples from American gave the Eagles a 40-35 advantage, their biggest lead of the game.
  • The Tigers went on a 10-0 run, which included seven points from Patricia Anumgba, to take a 45-40 lead with 4:02 left in the third. 
  • Towson took a 51-47 edge into the fourth quarter after both teams exchanged baskets to close out the third.

  • American cut the lead to four with 1:02 remaining, but a Kylie Kornegay-Lucas pull-up jumper sealed a 68-60 victory for the Tigers.

  • Patricia Anumgba finished with double figures for the third straight game with 17 points and added three steals.
  • India Johnston had 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.
  • The Tigers totaled 11 steals for the second straight game and have finished with double-digit steals in five of the last six games.
