TOWSON, Md. – Towson University's Carter Runyon has been honored as an Associated Press FCS Second Team All-American, announced by the organization.  Runyon is Towson's first-ever Division I All-American tight end.
 
Runyon is the first Towson player to be selected as an Associated Press All-American since 2018, when Shane Simpson was a First Team player at all-purpose.  Towson has had an All-American each of the last two seasons, with D'Ago Hunter being a STATS Perform Third Team All-American at punt returner in 2022.
 
He also stands as the first-ever Towson Division I tight end to earn All-America status.  He is the third Towson tight end in program history to earn All-American recognition; Hernando Mejia was an Associated Press Division II Honorable Mention All-American in 1983 while Skip Chase earned Kodak First Team Division III All-American and Associated Press Second Team Division III All-American selections in 1976.
 
Runyon, in his first year with the Tigers after transferring in from Shenandoah, led all Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) tight ends in receiving yards with 549 and was Towson's leader in receptions with 43, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns with four.  He earned at least 62 receiving yards in six of his last eight games and was named All-CAA First Team at tight end.
 
A few weeks ago, KJ Brooks was selected as a 2023 FCS Football Central Freshman All-American.
 
Runyon was one of 12 CAA players to earn Associated Press All-America recognition.  The All-America team is selected by SIDs and sports writers who cover FCS football.
 
In 2023, Towson earned top-15 road victories at New Hampshire and William & Mary.  The Tigers have earned a .500 or better CAA year four of the last five seasons.
