TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's lacrosse head coach
Shawn Nadelen has announced that
Andy Shilling has been elevated to assistant coach starting in the 2024 season.
"I'm excited to continue my role as a dedicated men's lacrosse coach at Towson University," said Shilling. "As the volunteer assistant coach for the past seven years, the journey has been incredibly impactful. Contributing to the growth and development of our athletes has fueled my passion for the sport and a commitment to excellence. Looking ahead, I'm eager to contribute to the continued evolution of our program and enhance the competitive edge of our student-athletes."
"We are excited to officially add Shilling to an assistant coach position," said Nadelen. "Coach Shilling has put a great deal of time and effort into this program and brings a great deal of knowledge and experience with him. We are excited to have his influence over our student-athletes and our team."
Shilling enters his eighth season with the team, serving as the volunteer assistant coach the previous seven years and working closely with the team's goalkeepers and offense, taking over the extra-man unit in 2019.
He has been part of a Towson program which has made four trips to the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) title game during his time, including championships in 2017 and 2019.
Towson's primary goalkeepers have earned All-CAA recognition the past three seasons, with
Shane Brennan being First Team All-CAA in 2022 and Second Team All-CAA in 2021 and
Evan Long notching Second Team All-CAA honors in 2023. Several other Towson goalkeepers have earned league honors, including each Matt Hoy and Tyler Canto being CAA All-Tournament Team in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Prior to Towson, Shilling coached at Boys' Latin from 2013-16, helping the program win the 2014 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association and national titles and 2013 JV MIAA Championship. He is the program director of B'More Lax Co. and played at Salisbury from 1990-91.
The current team is gearing up for the 2024 season. In 2023, Towson earned five conference victories to notch a trip to the CAA Tournament, including a home win over then-top-15 Delaware on Senior Day. The Tigers are set to return four 2023 All-CAA honorees, three 2023 CAA All-Rookie selections and five of their top six scorers from this past season.
