TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball won their second straight, 87-75 on Saturday night against North Carolina A&T on Senior Day.
Nicolas Timberlake led the charge once again with 26 points, which moved him into 10
th place on the all-time scoring list.
With the win, Towson clinches a top four seed in the CAA Tournament earning a double bye to the quarterfinals.
Timberlake led the four Tigers (19-10, 11-5 CAA) in double figures behind a crowd of 3,598, the largest attendance this season. The Tigers honored seven senior pregame, including
Charles Thompson (15 points),
Nygal Russell (15 points), and
Sekou Sylla (11 points) who all hit double figures.
Key Stats:
- Thompson recorded a season-high and tied his career high with 17 rebounds.
- The Tigers collected 54 rebounds, the most in a single game this season.
- Towson hit double digit three pointers for the second consecutive game, going 15-39 from deep.
How It Happened:
- Towson started the game on fire, racing out to a 20-2 lead before the first media timeout.
- Sekou Sylla would start to take over on the glass. On two straight possessions, Sylla cleaned up a missed shot and stuck the put back to keep the Tiger lead at double figures.
- The Aggies would battle back cutting the Tiger lead to ten by the under eight timeout.
- After Towson regained a nearly 20-point lead, the Aggies roared back with a 7-0 run to force a Towson timeout.
- North Carolina A&T would get the deficit to ten, but Ryan Conway gave Towson a 48-35 lead at the break with a three on the wing.
- The Aggies came out of the locker room firing, cutting the Tiger lead to six and forced an early Towson timeout.
- They would continue to cut into the lead, getting the deficit down to three. However, Nicolas Timberlake hit back-to-back threes to push the lead back to nine.
- The Aggies would get the Tiger lead back to two with five minutes left, but Towson would hit free throws down the stretch to defeat the Aggies, 87-75 on Saturday.
Inside The Numbers:
- A crowd of 3,598 were in attendance on Saturday. That is the largest of crowd of the season, and the seventh largest at SECU Arena.
- Nicolas Timberlake moved into 10th on the all-time scoring list with 1,440 points. Today he passed Bucky Kimmett and Bobby Washington and is now just 29 points behind Bill Leonard in ninth with 1,469 points.
- Towson ends their home schedule with a 10-2 record and are now 92-41 all-time at SECU Arena.
- The Tigers honored seven senior pregame. Olugbemi Joseph, Sekou Sylla, Nygal Russell, Jason Gibson, Cam Holden, Nicolas Timberlake and Charles Thompson were honored before the game.
