Towson Women's Basketball Falls to Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – The Towson University women's basketball team went against the Hampton Lady Pirates on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (15-10, 9-5 CAA) fell 72-61 after giving up 25 points in the fourth quarter.
 
Kylie Kornegay-Lucas led Towson with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Patricia Anumgba and Skye Williams each finished with ten points.
 
 
Key Stats vs Hampton:
  • Towson outrebounded the Lady Pirates 42-32.
  • Hampton totaled 42 points in the paint.
  • Nylah Young and Laren VanArsdale led the scoring for the Lady Pirates with 19 points each.
 
How It Happened vs Hampton:
  • The Tigers opened the first quarter with an 11-3 run highlighted by a corner three from Alexia Nelson.
  • The Lady Pirates cut the lead down to six, but the teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter with Towson having a 19-11 lead heading into the second.
  • The teams continued to trade baskets to start the second quarter, but Hampton responded with a 7-0 run to tie the score at 24 apiece.
  • Towson scored on back-to-back possessions with an and-one by Kylie Kornegay-Lucas to take a 29-24 edge.
  • Hampton cut the lead down to one, but Anissa Rivera hit a mid-range jumper to give the Tigers a 33-30 advantage going into the locker room.
  • Skye Williams and Nelson started the third with back-to-back jumpers to have a seven-point lead.
  • The teams continued to battle back and forth, but Hampton chipped away at the lead until Laren VanArsdale hit a three-pointer to give Hampton its first lead of the game with 2:16 remaining in the third.
  • A couple of late free throws by Kornegay-Lucas cut the deficit to one heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Towson got out to a 54-50 lead early in the fourth after an 8-3 run that included two three-pointers by Rivera.
  • The Lady Pirates tied the game at 56 heading into the media timeout, then went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game.
  • The Tigers got the deficit down to six twice after layups by Patricia Anumgba and Quinzia Fulmore, but Hampton held off the Tigers and won 71-62.
