TOWSON, Md. – Brian Benzing is set to represent Towson University swimming & diving at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center during the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota from March 22-25. The junior was selected to compete in the 200-yard individual medley on Thursday and his feature event, the 100-yard breaststroke, on Friday.

Benzing is seeded seventh overall in the preliminary heats of the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a record time of 51.25 at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships last month, solidifying an automatic entry to the NCAA Championship. In the 200-yard individual medley, he is seeded 48th overall with a record time of 1:44.41 recorded at the conference championship meet.
The junior enters the meet as a two-time CAA Men's Swimmer of the Year recipient, a two-time CAA Championship Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet and a two-time individual record holder in the conference in the 100 breast and 200 IM, also claiming gold in the 100 fly at the championship meet last month. He went undefeated in the 100 breast in the regular season through the CAA championship, winning the event four times before taking gold at the conference championship.
Benzing claimed an honorable mention All-America nod last season after placing 13th in the 100 breast at the NCAA Championship with a time of 51.66. His preliminary time of 51.47 set a school and conference record before resetting both again last month.
Preliminary heats will begin at 10 a.m. each day with the finals sessions scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
