Towson Women's Tennis Hosts Delaware State for Senior Day

TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University Tigers tennis team wraps up regular season play against Delaware State. The Black & Gold will hold Alumnae and Senior Day at 3 p.m. on Monday at the Tiger Tennis Complex.

Sarah Pospischill was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Pospischill is the first Tiger to win CAA Player of the Week since Phoebe Collins won the honor in 2019. She went 2-0 at No. 1 singles to lead Towson to victories over Rider (4-2) and CAA foe Monmouth (5-2) last week.
 
The senior from Reisenburg, Austria, defeated Rider's Leila Koster, 6-2, 6-4, as the Black & Gold swept the top three singles spots. She followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over Monmouth's Ann Spurka as Towson again won the top three spots. Pospischill went 1-0 at No. 1 doubles, picking up a win against the duo of Koster/Agnese Ceccarelli from Rider 6-2.
 
Last Time Out
The Black & Gold went 1-2 last week across their three matches. The Tigers started the week with a 6-1 loss to CAA newcomers Hampton with Erin Gray picking up the lone singles win. Towson bounced back with a 4-3 win against Loyola on Sol Schwartz Save College Tennis Day. Olivia Rothfeld, Lea Kosanovic, Sarah Pospischill and Sania Suchinsky won their singles matches with Pospischill winning the deciding match. The Tigers finished the week with a 7-0 loss to Delaware.
 
Schedule Update 
The Tigers have a couple of changes to their spring schedule. The Black & Gold have added CAA newcomers North Carolina A&T and Hampton to the schedule. The Tigers will play the Aggies on March 24th in Greensboro while hosting Hampton at the Tiger Tennis Complex on April 10th. Towson also added Loyola on April 13th at the Tiger Tennis Complex.
 
Fall Recap 
Towson competed in three tournaments during the fall season. The Tigers opened play at the Tribe Invitational and picked up a double win from the duo of Antonia Lawson/Olivia Rothfeld. The team then competed in the Bedford Cup, where Rothfeld won her singles bracket over former Tiger Sissi Axelsson. Sarah Pospischill finished as a runner-up in her flight, falling to Sifa Butcher 6-4, 6-3. In doubles, the duo of Lawson & Rothfeld won their bracket over Morgan State's Lauryn Hall/Averiana Mitchell. The final tournament Towson participated in was the Fall Tiger Classic. The Tigers picked up 14 wins across three days of play, with Jessica Assenmacher winning two matches in her final two games as a Tiger.   

Delaware State Scouting Report
The Hornets bring in a 10-7-1 record to Towson. Delaware State started the spring season with a 7-0 loss to Georgetown, then the Hornets tied George Washington 3-3 with the No. 6 singles match not being able to finish. Delaware State lost its next three matches including two 4-3 matches against George Mason and Saint Joseph's. The Hornets bounced back with three consecutive wins including 6-1 wins against Lafayette and Norfolk State. Delaware State was swept 7-0 by South Carolina State, then won three straight matches that included 7-0 sweeps against Coppin State and Bowie State. The Hornets fell 4-3 to Howard then bounced back with 6-1 wins against Loyola and Rider. Delaware State fell 4-1 to Delaware but defeated New Jersey City 6-1.
 
Next Up
Towson will head down to Williamsburg for the CAA Championship starting on Thursday, April 20th.
