Towson Men’s Basketball Lands IUP Transfer Tomiwa Sulaiman

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's basketball announces the signing of former Indiana University of Pennsylvania forward Tomiwa Sulaiman for the 2023-24 season. Sulaiman spent the last three seasons with the Crimson Hawks and was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Rookie of the Year in 2022.
 
"We are excited to welcome a player of Tomiwa's caliber to our program. Coach Conway did an excellent job recruiting him. His versatility, physical attributes and his successful game experience will help us immediately. Playing for an established program under coach Lombardi at IUP is a bonus. Tomiwa comes from an excellent family and shares many of the same values and characteristics that our current student-athletes have and I know he is excited to get to work," Towson head coach Pat Skerry said of Sulaiman.
 
The London, England native spent the last two seasons with the Crimson Hawks in PSAC, helping IUP to back-to-back PSAC titles in 2022 and 2023. The 2022 team reached the NCAA Tournament Final Four. This past season the Crimson Hawks reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen after defending their PSAC title.
 
During his two seasons in Pennsylvania, he helped the Crimson Hawks to a 65-5 record, including a 33-3 record this season. During the 2022-23 campaign, Sulaiman averaged 12.6 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 1.9 apg while shooting 58 percent from the floor. He had a 24-point, 15-rebound game against Pitt-Johnstown in February.
 
Sulaiman has experience against Division I opponents. The Crimson Hawks played exhibitions against Syracuse and Miami (Fla.) this past season. Sulaiman had 12 points and five rebounds against the Orange and put up 14 points and eight rebounds against the Hurricanes.
 
Prior to IUP, Sulaiman attended West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md. out in Cecil County. He was the number 1 ranked player at Deng Camp for the Class of 2020 where he averaged 16.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg and shot 62.2 percent from the field during the camp. He also played for Team Great Britain at the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championships where he averaged 10.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 2.3 spg during the championships.
 
Towson is coming off a 21-12 campaign that saw the Tigers reach the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Semifinals after back-to-back 20-win seasons for just the second time in program history.
