TOWSON, Md. – Towson University men's basketball will travel north of the border for a trip to Canada in August. The Tigers will play games against local universities, as well as the Haitian National Team, during the weeklong excursion.
The trip will help the Tigers prep for the 2023-24 season while also providing the student-athletes and staff a chance to explore and learn about the country in the process. The team will visit various sites and have the chance to compete against talented teams in both Toronto and Montreal.
"We are excited to visit our neighbors to the north and enjoy the great cities of Toronto and Montreal while we play some great teams, sightsee and build our team," head coach
Pat Skerry said of the trip. "Everyone in our program is incredibly appreciative of our athletic director Steve Eigenbrot and our Towson athletics administration in providing this opportunity and support for our program," he continued.
The Tigers will kick-off the five-game slate with two games in Toronto, starting with a matchup against the University of Toronto on Thursday, August 10. Towson will then take on Toronto Metropolitan University on August 11 before leaving Ontario to head to Quebec.
Following a travel day to Montreal, the Tigers will face the Haitian National Team on Sunday, August 13 before ending the trip against the University of Laval and Concordia University on August 14-15. The team's itinerary will also feature stops at various sites in Toronto and Montreal including the CN Tower and Lake Ontario in Toronto, Mount Royal Park, Olympic Stadium and Old Montreal.
"Foreign tours have become an integral part of building a strong program and the additional time we are allowed to work with our players is exciting and needed," Skerry said.
Towson is coming off its second straight 20-win season that saw the Tigers reach the semifinals of the CAA Championships. The Tigers return key pieces from last season's team including graduate forward
Charles Thompson and sophomores
Ryan Conway and
Christian May.
