TOWSON, Md. – The Houston Astros have selected Towson University pitcher
Ethan Pecko with the 194th overall pick in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft on Monday.
The Ridley Park, Pennsylvania native is the 19th Towson player drafted in MLB and the first since Cleveland selected Richie Palacios in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Pecko is the fourth-highest draftee from Towson behind Chris Nabholz selected in the second round, and Palacios and Chris Russ taken in the third.
Pecko finished this year 2-2 with a 3.21 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 42.0 innings pitched over 11 starts for the Tigers. The redshirt sophomore recorded wins in each of his two scoreless starts of at least five innings this season. He surrendered just three hits and notched six strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work against Monmouth on April 21. In his last start of the season, he allowed only two hits with nine strikeouts and a walk in 5.1 innings pitched versus Stony Brook.
Since transferring from La Salle, Pecko pitched 21 games for the Tigers the last two seasons, striking out 64 batters in 59.2 innings, having a career 4.37 ERA.
