TOWSON, Md. – The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled Towson University standout Richie Palacios from the club's AAA affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, landing him on St. Louis' 26-man roster.
Since being acquired from the Cleveland Guardians for cash considerations on June 16, Palacios has played 40 games for the Memphis Redbirds. He's slashed .299/.418/.459 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with 10 doubles, five home runs, 29 RBI and three stolen bases in that span.
In his first major league stint, Palacios played 54 games for the Cleveland Guardians in 2022. He batted .232 with six doubles, 10 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
Palacios was a two-time All-CAA infielder in three years with Towson from 2016-18, hitting .324 in his collegiate career. As a junior, Palacios hit .301 with 18 doubles, eight home runs, 31 RBI and 25 stolen bases, also having 52 walks to just 16 strikeouts for a .457 on-base percentage. He is the program's all-time leader in stolen bases with 76.
In 2018, he was the third-highest Towson player ever taken in the MLB Draft, being selected in the third round, 103rd overall, by Cleveland. Since being drafted, Palacios has played in 289 minor league games, hitting .288 with 25 home runs, 74 doubles and 173 RBI. He has also stolen 48 bases on 60 attempts.
