CANADA CONFIDENTIAL: Scouting the Opponents for the Tigers in Canada

TOWSON, Md. – The Tigers are just days away from heading north of the border for a trip to Canada August 9-15. While in the Great White North, the Tigers will be playing competition from both Toronto and Montreal.
 
August 10 at University of Toronto – 7 p.m.
The University of Toronto Blues finished the 2022-23 season at 13-10 going 13-9 in Ontario University Athletics play. Second year head coach Madhav Trivedi led the Blues to the OUA Playoffs for the first time since the 2017-18 season falling in the first round, 77-74 to Wilfrid Laurier University.
 
During the program's history, that dates to 1907-08, the Blues have won 14 conference titles, the second most in OUA history with their last title coming in 1995. Callum Baker led Toronto averaging 21.6 points per game in 2022-23 with Inaki Alvarez (15.9 ppg) and Noah Ngamba (11.1 ppg) also averaging double figures.
 
August 11 at Toronto Metropolitan University – 7 p.m.
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) finished the 2022-23 season at 15-9 going 14-9 in OUA play, reaching the OUA Quarterfinals. The Bold sported a 9-3 record in home games. TMU played exhibition games against NCAA opponents Northern Illinois and Oregon last season.
 
TMU, formerly Ryerson University, started competing in basketball after the school was founded in 1948. The team has won two OUA championships in 2016 and 2017, part of four straight seasons appearing in the finals. TMU averaged 83.8 points per game last season, led by Aaron Rhooms at 18.5 ppg. David Walker (16.9), Ankit Choudhary (12.7) and Lamar Everd (11.1) also hit double digits in 2022-23.
 
August 13 @ University of Quebec at Montreal – 2 p.m.
The University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) Citadins went 10-5 last season averaging 76.3 points per game and shooting over 42 percent from the floor. Four different Citadins averaged double figures led by Alix Lochard at 15.6 per game. Lochard shot 55.9 percent from the floor and 34 percent from three. Kevin Civil, Bahaide Haidara and Karl-Tommy Laforest also averaged double figures at 14.1, 13.5 and 10.3 ppg resepectively. 
 
August 14 vs. University of Laval (@ Brebeuf College) – 7 p.m.
The University of Laval competes in the Réseau du sport sportif du Québec (RSEQ) and finished the 2022-23 season at 9-7, just one game back of the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) in the regular season. Laval lost in the RSEQ Semifinals, 100-86 to Bishop's and went 6-2 in home games.
 
Sydney Tremblay Lacombe led Laval averaging 18.9 points per game with 27 steals. Saydou Sall and Steeve Joseph also averaged double figures at 12.3 and 11.8 points per game respectively.
 
August 15 vs. Concordia University (@ Brebeuf College) – 2 p.m.
The Concordia University Stingers finished the 2022-23 Réseau du sport sportif du Québec (RSEQ) season at 7-9 in third place. The Stingers lost to the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) in the RESQ Semifinals. Concordia played fellow CAA foe Northeastern last summer as well as America East powerhouse Vermont last summer, falling 80-58 to the Huskies and 76-71 to the Catamounts.
 
Five different Stingers averaged double digits led by Sami Jahan at 15.7 per game. Jaheem Joseph (15.0), Steve Mida Abomo (11.7), Alec Phaneuf (11.5) and Tyrell Williams (11.4) also hit double figures for Concordia.
