Towson Women's Basketball Falls to North Carolina A&T in Overtime

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Towson University women's basketball team closed out the first week of CAA action with a Sunday afternoon matchup against the North Carolina A&T Aggies. The Tigers (8-4, 1-1 CAA) fell to the Aggies (7-6, 1-1 CAA) 62-52 in overtime. 

Kylie Kornegay-Lucas led the Tigers with 23 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

  • The Tigers were held to a season-low 21.7% from the field.
  • The Aggies won the rebounding battle 62-40.
 
How It Happened vs North Carolina A&T:
  • The Aggies opened the first quarter knocking down two early baskets to have a 4-0 lead.
  • Towson responded with an 8-0 run that included back-to-back threes from Kylie Kornegay-Lucas and Alexia Nelson.
  • North Carolina A&T finished the quarter on a 6-2 run to tie the score at ten apiece. 
  • The Aggies started the second quarter with a 9-0 run to have a 19-10 advantage.
  • An India Johnston pull-up jumper sparked a 12-0 run for the Tigers as the Black & Gold held North Carolina A&T scoreless for the final 6:24 to take a 22-19 edge into halftime.
  • The teams traded possessions with the Tigers extending the lead to five.
  • The Aggies countered with an 8-0 run to take a 30-26 lead.

  • After an empty possession for each team, Chaniya Clark made a triple with eight seconds left, but Dikaite missed a mid-range jumper for the Tigers as time expired to head into overtime.
  • North Carolina A&T opened the overtime frame with a 6-1 run to lead 52-47.
  • The Aggies grew the lead to nine, but a Kornegay-Lucas triple cut the deficit down to six.
  • The Aggies sealed the game with a 6-2 run to win 62-52.

  • Kylie Kornegay-Lucas had nine rebounds for the seventh time this season and second straight game.
  • Alexia Nelson tied a season-high with seven rebounds which included five offensive rebounds.
