TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson University baseball player Harper Sy is representing the Philippines National Team at the 2024 Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) XIV East Asia Baseball Cup, hosted by the defending-champion Philippines squad from October 29 to November 3.
 
The tournament, formerly known as the BFA Asia Baseball Cup, was split into the East Asia Baseball Cup and the West Asia Baseball Cup in 2012. Since then, the Philippines has won every edition of the East Asia tournament.
 
Seven teams begin round robin play in two pools to open the tournament. Pool A includes Cambodia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand. The Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore make up Pool B. Following pool play, the top two teams in each group will move onto the Super Round.
 
In the Super Round, the two teams advancing from Pool A will play the two teams advancing from Pool B. From there, the top two teams will face off in the Gold Medal Game. The third and fourth place teams will play in the Bronze Medal Game.
 
The Opening Round will conclude on October 31. The top two finishers in the Super Round will compete for the title on Sunday, November 3.
 
This is Sy's third time being named to the roster of the Philippines National Team. His first opportunity was at the BFA XII East Asia Baseball Cup in Hong Kong in 2018. Sy finished 1-for-7 with a single, two RBI's and two runs in three starts as the Philippines won the gold medal. In his second national team stint, Sy played at the XIX Asian Games in Huangzhou, China last year. The Philippines finished in fifth place as Sy would go 6-for-13 with two doubles, a triple, three RBI's, two runs and a stolen base over five appearances (two starts).
