TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team had players represented in the FCS Football Central and Phil Steele awards, announced on Thursday.
Carter Runyon headlined the honors, earning All-America selections by both entities: First Team by Phil Steele and Second Team by FCS Football Central. Four places, including the
Associated Press and Stats Perform, have named Runyon an All-American for the 2024 season.
Phil Steele also released its all-conference awards, including several Tigers being honored. Runyon is a First Team at tight end. Two players,
Nchabanu Fortaboh and
Ralph Paige Jr., earned Second Team, while three players,
Devin Matthews,
Myles Brodie and
Keegan Vaughan, made Third Team.
Jurnee Dunbar notched Fourth Team while three Tigers are on Fifth Team:
John Dunmore,
John Gioia and
Will Middleton.
Runyon was Towson's leader in receptions with 45 and receiving touchdowns with five, earning his second straight 500+ receiving yard season with 502. He earned multiple receptions in 11 of Towson's 12 games this year.
Fortaboh was Towson's leader in sacks with 6.5 and tackles for loss with nine, finishing with 33 tackles in 11 games played on the defensive line. He finished with at least one sack in four of Towson's final six games.
Paige Jr. was Towson's starting center in all 12 games this year, anchoring a line which averaged over five yards per rush and had an 85.7% scoring rate in the red zone.
Matthews tallied up 896 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 142 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. He stands fifth in FCS with 6.79 yards per carry after averaging 74.7 rushing yards per game.
Brodie started 11 games at cornerback, leading Towson with 11 passes defended on two interceptions and nine pass break-ups, adding 44 tackles. He broke up at least one pass in six of the last seven games of 2024.
Vaughan tied a Towson single season record in 2024 with 11 consecutive field goals made from Sept. 21-Nov. 23, finishing second in the CAA with a 78.9% field goal rate. He finished with 15 field goals made and was a perfect 35-for-35 on extra point attempts.
Dunbar started all 12 games on the defensive line for Towson, finishing with 30 tackles, six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He registered at least a half tackle-for-loss in four of Towson's final five games of the year.
Dunmore was Towson's leader in receiving yards with 619 and receiving touchdowns with five, making 42 receptions, including multiple catches in 10 contests. He earned at least 50 receiving yards in seven games.
Playing in nine games, Gioia was Towson's leader in tackles per game with 7.5 a contest, totaling 68 on the year. At linebacker, he also added 3.5 tackles and loss and two sacks, having at least five tackles in all games played.
Middleton earned the team lead in tackles with 87, having at least eight tackles in six of his games played. He added three tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks, an interception and a pair of pass break-ups.
