Towson Gymnastics Wins Second Consecutive EAGL Championship Title

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University gymnastics team earned its second consecutive East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship title on Saturday evening in TU Arena, posting the highest championship score recorded in program history of 197.300.
 
New Hampshire placed second with a 196.150 followed by George Washington (195.800), Temple (195.600) and LIU (194.975).
 
The Tigers led throughout each rotation, posting no event score lower than 49.175. The highlight of the meet came from the second rotation of the night, where the Black & Gold logged a program record 49.475 on beam backed by four athletes scoring 9.900 or higher.
 
Towson picked up four first-place finishes across three events and an additional six podium spots. 21 out of the 24 routines performed by the Black & Gold earned scores of 9.800 or better.
 
Towson dominated receiving more than half of the EAGL annual awards, earning five of the eight honors. Elise Tisler was tabbed EAGL Specialist of the Year while Retoshia Halsell was named EAGL Rookie of the Year. Head coach Jay Ramirez and associate head coach Ashley Sauer earned EAGL Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year, respectively. Meredith Crawford was named EAGL Sports Administrator of the Year. The Tigers also earned 22 EAGL All-Tournament Team selections at the conclusion of the championship for placing in the top-16 on their respective events.

Rotation One – Bars – 49.300
  • Isabella Minervini received 9.95s from all four judges for a final score of 9.950 to become the 2024 EAGL bars champion, which marks her ninth victory on the event this season.
  • Lauren Greene, Clara Hong and Grace Vaillancourt logged a trio of 9.850s for a share of sixth place.
  • Lauren Keener was the leadoff for the Tigers, opening the rotation with a 9.800.
Rotation Two – Beam – 49.475
  • Grace Vaillancourt picked up her second consecutive EAGL beam title, winning the event with her best score this season of 9.950, matching her career high. The senior won beam at the 2023 EAGL Championship with the same score.
  • Clara Hong, Sarah Girot and Jenna Weitz all posted 9.900s to tie for second place. The score marks a new career high for Hong. Lauren Keener logged a 9.825.
