Towson Tennis Wraps up Home Slate with Four Matches

TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University Tigers tennis team wraps up their home slate with four matches across five days. On Thursday, Towson welcomes Delaware State, then hosts George Mason on Friday for Alumnae/Senior Day. The Tigers then play host to Delaware on Sunday and close out their seven match homestand against Hampton on Monday. All four matches will happen at the Tiger Tennis Complex.

Seeing Double
The duo of Lea Kosanovic and Chandrè Boshoff were selected as the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. The is Towson's first doubles team of the week honor since 2022 when Themis Haliou and Kosanovic won the award. The duo went 2-0 at the No.1 flight this week. They started off with a 6-3 victory against William & Mary's Yu Chen & Emma Fernald. The pair followed up with a 7-5 victory over the Mount's Sofia Kostirko & Riya Mathur, fighting back from three set points.                                                                                 
 
Home Sweet Home
The Tigers start a stretch of home matches to close out the 2024 season. Towson will play seven of its last nine matches at the Tiger Tennis Complex, which include three CAA matches. The Tigers start a seven match homestand on Saturday with William & Mary and concluding with Hampton on April 15th. The Black and Gold are currently 1-1, picking up 5-2 win against Mount St. Mary's.                                                                                                                                                                                     

New Faces
The Black & Gold welcome three new players for this upcoming season with two freshmen and one senior transfer. Ashira Murray comes to Towson after playing across the pond in England, while Chandrè Boshoff comes over from South Africa. Mya Spencer joins the Tigers after playing three seasons as Saint Louis and is a Bowie, Maryland native. Spencer totaled 37 singles wins and 35 doubles wins for the Billikens.                                                                                                                                                                        

Fall Recap 
Towson competed in five tournaments during the fall season. The Tigers started with three wins in the Towson Hidden Dual Tournament. At the Tribe Invitational, the Tigers picked up five wins with Mya Spencer winning a consolation bracket championship. Towson competed in the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational next. The Tigers totaled two singles wins and one doubles victory. The Black & Gold went down the road and took part in the Greyhounds Women's Tennis Classic. Towson picked up 11 victories as three doubles pairs reached their respective finals. The Tigers closed out the fall season at the ITA Atlantic Regional.

Last Week Recap
The Black & Gold played two matches last week going 1-1. The Tigers hosted CAA foe William & Mary and fell 7-0 with the duo of Lea Kosanovic and Chandrè Boshoff picking up a doubles win at the number one flight. Towson followed up with a 5-2 victory against the Mount. Ashira Murray, Lea Kosanovic and Sania Suchinsky won in straight sets, while Chandré Boshoff and Olivia Rothfeld won in three sets.

Delaware State Scouting Report
The Hornets have a 9-5 overall record and a 3-2 MEAC record. The Hornets opened the season with 6-1 loss to Drexel, then won its next four matches picking up wins against George Washington, George Mason, Saint Joseph's and Lafayette. Delaware State fell to Delaware, but bounced back with wins against Indiana University East and Wilmington University. The Hornets dropped a tight match against North Carolina Central to start MEAC play, but defeated Norfolk State 6-1. Delaware State lost to South Carolina State 5-2, then defeated Coppin State and Howard. The Hornets played Loyola yesterday and fell 4-3 to Greyhounds.

George Mason Scouting Report
The Patriots have a 5-13 overall record with a 1-5 mark in A-10 play. George Mason lost its first two matches, but picked up a 5-2 victory over Mary Washington. The Patriots lost its following four matches, before defeating North Carolina Wesleyan. George Mason fell to UNCW and Tiffin University, before picking up a 4-3 victory against Saint Francis U. The Patriots lost three straight A-10 matches, before defeating St. Bonaventure 4-2. George Mason lost its next two matches, then defeated Shenandoah University yesterday. The Patriots will play Hampton before playing the Tigers.

Delaware Scouting Report
The Blue Hens have a 16-6 overall record with a 4-0 mark in CAA play. Delaware defeated Villanova, but fell to Penn and Rutgers to open the season. The Blue Hens picked up a 5-2 win over Navy, but fell to Liberty and Virginia Tech. Delaware won its next seven matches picking up wins over Penn State, Bucknell, Quinnipiac, Army, LIU, Monmouth and Delaware State. The Blue Hens lost to Cornell 4-1, then won its five following matches. Delaware lost to #25 FIU, then defeated NJIT and William & Mary. The Blue Hens will play Drexel, before playing the Tigers.

Hampton Scouting Report
The Lady Pirates have a9-8 overall record with 0-3 record in the CAA. Hampton opened the season with a loss to Loyola, then went on a four-match winning streak, picking up wins against Morgan State, Christopher Newport, Longwood and North Carolina Central. The Lady Pirates fell its CAA opener to Elon, but bounced back with a 4-3 win over UNC Greensboro. Hampton lost to FDU, but picked up wins against Marist and Bryant. The Lady Pirates lost five of its next six matches, picking up a 5-2 win over Norfolk State. Hampton swept Coppin State 4-0 on Monday. The Lady Pirates will play George Mason and North Carolina A&T, before playing the Tigers.

Towson will wrap up regular season play with on Friday, April 19th at 3 p.m. against Drexel at the Vidas Courts in Philadelphia, Pa.
