Four Tigers Honored in 2024 CAA Football Preseason Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – With the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Football Media Day beginning today, four Towson University student-athletes were recognized in the league preseason awards.

Three players were named to the 2024 CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team: Ralph Paige Jr. at offensive line, Carter Runyon at tight end and Keegan Vaughan at kicker.  In addition, Dion Crews-Harris was selected as CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention.  All four earn their first-ever CAA Preseason Honors.

The CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team is nominated and voted on by the league's head coaches.  It was released today on the first day of CAA Media Day.  Towson will take part in CAA Media Day tomorrow (July 25) with head coach Pete Shinnick and student-athletes Crews-Harris and Paige Jr.

Paige Jr. enters his senior campaign after being Honorable Mention All-CAA in 2023.  Paige was a fixture on the Towson offensive line, starting nine games at center, being part of a Tiger unit which allowed just 15 sacks, the lowest amount allowed by a CAA team.

Runyon, Towson's first-ever DI All-American at tight end, led all CAA tight ends in receiving yards with 549 last year, also being Towson's leader in receptions with 43 and receiving touchdowns with four.  Going into his senior year, Runyon was an All-American Second Team by the Associated Press and STATS Perform and was All-CAA First Team.

Vaughan has been Towson's primary placekicker the last three years, earning All-CAA Second Team in 2023.  He finished second in the CAA and 12th in FCS last year with a 83.3% field goal conversion rate, going 15-for-18, including multiple field goals in six games.  Including 23 extra points, he finished last season with 68 points.

After spending his first two seasons at fullback, Crews-Harris notched Honorable Mention All-CAA in 2023 at defensive line.  The Baltimore native was Towson's leader in sacks until the final game of the year, having five sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss, adding 37 total tackles and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Towson was predicted to finish ninth in the CAA Preseason Poll with 114 points.  In 2023, the Tigers finished tied for sixth in the league with a 4-4 conference record, including road victories over then top-15 opponents New Hampshire and William & Mary.

The three 2023 CAA co-champions lead the CAA Football Predicted Order of Finish, with Villanova as the preseason favorite with nine first-place votes and 217 points.  Richmond is second with a first-place vote and 189 points followed by UAlbany with three first-place votes and 179 points.
