TOWSON, Md. – Towson University graduate
Robert Javier will be headed to the Canadian Football League (CFL), signing a free agent contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Wednesday.
After graduating from Towson, Javier signed a free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL), playing in all three preseason games with the Titans through camp.
The Bronx, New York native was a fixture in the Towson secondary, being the primary cornerback the from 2022-23. He earned All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Second Team honors at cornerback in 2023, being second in the league in interceptions with four and passes broken-up with eight. Javier defended 26 passes his final two seasons, including being seventh in FCS in passes defended per game in 2022.
Currently one other former Tiger,
Tibo Debaillie of the BC Lions, is currently playing in the CFL.
Samuel Obiang competed in the 2024 CFL combine while three Tigers played in the CFL in 2023: Debaille,
Andrew Garnett and
Tyrell Pigrome. Saskatchewan also employed former Towson quarterback
Tom Flacco in 2021.
The Roughriders compete in the West Division of the CFL, standing 6-7-1 overall and just 1.5 games out of first place. Saskatchewan next plays on Saturday, Sept. 28 at home vs. Ottawa at 3 p.m. ET.
