VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Towson University track & field team competed in the VCU Indoor Invitational hosted by VCU on Sunday. The Tigers won five events at the meet and recorded four new marks in the Towson top ten record book.
How it Happened – Track
Leeann Redlo qualified for the 60mH finals and placed fourth in the finals heat with a time of 9.06.
In the 60m dash,
Maya Tucker qualified for the final heat and took gold in the event running a winning time of 7.61 in the finals. Freshman
Nancy Hudson and
Stella Anani posted times of 7.93 and 7.94 respectively in the prelims.
Freshman
Qiora Rollins took fourth place in the 400m Dash, and
Rebekka Hillier placed fifth in the 3000m run.
Piper Jons (1:14.73) grabbed gold in the 500m with the second fasted time in Towson history in the event.
Cristal Cuervo (1:15.81) finished third with the fifth fastest time in school history.
Baara Stewart (2:18.94) and
Lexi Mogensen (2:21.61) made it two straight events with Towson runners taking gold and bronze respectively.
Jons (24.10), Tucker (24.55) and Cuervo (24.88) claimed all three podium spots in the 200m dash with Jons running the third fastest time in Towson history as well.
Jasmine Scott's time of 40.98 in the 300m dash places her ninth in school history in the event. Scott is the fifth Tiger to run a top ten 300m time in Towson history this season.
The 4x400 relay (
Spencer Settle (1:01.76),
Qiora Rollins (58.20),
Jasmine Scott (56.98),
Baara Stewart (57.68)) closed out the meet with the Tigers fifth gold medal performance, running a time of 3:54.61.
How it Happened - Field
Beyonka Lee finished seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.04m. Makayla Pritchett,
Brandi Gochenauer, and
Aleah Schwartz all posted season best marks in the event.
Schwartz and Gochenauer also set season best marks in the shot put with Schwartz beating her previous mark by almost two and a half meters.
Redlo took silver in the long jump with a 5.46m mark with
Aniyah Toppin finishing eighth. Toppin also placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.56, Denee Hibbert and
Omokemi Balogun tied for sixth.
