TOWSON, Md. - Junior Baara Stewart earned her first outdoor Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) track athlete of the week honors, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Towson traveled to George Mason University this past weekend to compete in the Dalton EBanks Invitational, where Stewart delivered two record-breaking performances in the 800m and 1500m. The junior clocked a personal-best 2:05.64 in the 800m to place first at the meet and reset the 37-year-old record previously held by Maureen Shaneman (2:07.58) from 1989. The time ranks first in the CAA and 43rd in the NCAA.
Stewart had another personal best performance in the 1500m, posting a time of 4:29.08 to place third overall at the meet and set the school record, previously held by Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue (4:30.44) from 2010. Her pace ranks seventh in the CAA.
The Tigers continue their season this weekend on Saturday, April 11. The team will split up to attend both the South Florida Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida as well as the Rutgers Relays, hosted by Rutgers University.
