RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 34 Towson University gymnastics team opened the season at No. 25 N.C. State in a rematch of former East Atlantic Gymnastics League rivals.  Towson scored a 194.425 but fell to the Wolfpack at 195.825.
 
Towson led after the first rotation with a 48.950 score on the bars, ahead of N.C. State with 48.925 on vault.  The home team went ahead in the second rotation and held the lead the rest of the way.
 
How it Happened for Towson (in Rotation Order)

• Bars – 48.950
  • Towson got a couple of strong starts with Lauren Keener beginning with a 9.700, followed by Lauren Greene also earning a 9.700.
  • Into the fourth gymnast, Clara Hong came off just .025 off her career-high with a 9.900.  Chelsey Dennis, in her first time in the rotation, earned a 9.725, then Isabella Minervini earned the top score of rotation one with a 9.925.
• Vault – 48.350
  • Adriana Hoffman and Felicia Polbete got Towson started with scores of 9.600 and 9.700 respectively.
  • On competitors four and five, Towson went with a pair of freshmen in their first meet.  Ava Harper and Callie Gardner notched 9.725 and 9.600.  Reigning EAGL Rookie of the Year Retoshia Halsell finished, tying the top score for Towson with a 9.725.
• Floor – 48.700
  • Transfer Isabello DeCroo got Towson started off with a 9.625.  Carmella Calafati and Clara Hong followed with big performances on a 9.750 and 9.800.
  • Towson's veterans finished off the scoring as Isabella Minervini got a 9.775 and Retoshia Halsell finished with a 9.750.
• Beam – 48.425
  • In her first event for Towson as a transfer, Ana Kenefick started with a 9.575.  Towson followed with three consecutive finishes over 9.7: Isabella Minervini at 9.725, Celia Trotter at 9.725 and Clara Hong at 9.775.
  • Polina Belanovski's 9.625 wiped out an earlier fall to finish up Towson's rotation.

Inside the Numbers

• Isabella Minervini's 9.925 on bars ties for sixth all-time in Towson history.  It is just .050 off her career-high of 9.975 on Feb. 16, 2024.
• Several Towson freshmen made their debut in the first meet of 2025, including Ava Harper and Callie Gardner on the vault.  Reese Toland made her collegiate debut with an exhibition on the floor.

• Towson heads north next weekend for a quad-meet in Piscataway, N.J., taking on Rutgers, Penn and West Chester on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
