Field Hockey Visiting Drexel, Hosting Bucknell This Weekend

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team are set for a pair of games this weekend. First the Tigers visit Coastal Athletic Association rivals Drexel on Friday, October 17 at 4 p.m. before returning home to host Bucknell on Sunday, October 19 at noon.
 
Sunday's game vs Bucknell is the annual Breast Cancer Awareness game and Towson Field Hockey is teaming up with the American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) to champion breast cancer prevention and early detection. Click the link above to donate and help fight and prevent breast cancer.
 
Scouting the Opponents:
The Drexel Dragons are 7-6 overall this season and are currently 1-1 in CAA play. Drexel enters Friday's game off a win over #20 Saint Joseph's. The Dragons are led by 2024 CAA Player of the Year and 2025 CAA Preseason Player of the Year Valentine Van Hellemont who currently leads the team with five goals and 13 points, as well as junior Pili Lemoine who has 12 points and leads Drexel with six assists.
The Bucknell Bison are 6-5 so far this year and are coming off wins over Holy Cross and Boston University. Senior Kira Leclercq and sophomore Reese Czajkowski are pacing the Bison with seven points each with Leclercq leading the way with 19 total points. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Althouse currently sports a .785 save percentage and has only allowed 14 goals in 11 games.
 
Last Week Notes
  • With the Tigers win over William & Mary on Friday, Towson is off to a 2-0 start in CAA play and sits tied with Monmouth for first place in the regular season standings. This is the first time Towson has started 2-0 in conference play since joining the CAA in 2002.
  • With her goal in the second quarter of Towson's game against Saint Francis on Sunday, Rosemarie Staal became the second Tiger to reach ten points on the season alongside Ella Kaufman.
  • Anouk Westerink scored both goals in Towson's 2-0 win over William & Mary, it was the second multi-goal game from a Tiger this season after Dakotah Trader netted twice against Lock Haven on September 5.
