Towson University Alumni Couple Commits $500,000 to Campaign for Excellence Capital Project

Towson University Athletics is proud to announce a $500,000 gift from Mark '93 and Jody '93 Eber and their Eber Family Foundation in support of the $12 million Campaign for Excellence. Their commitment will support a $40 million capital renovation and expansion project on South Campus, one that will transform the Field House and Towson Center Gym.

Longtime supporters of Towson University, the Ebers have deep ties to both the university and the greater Towson community. Mark, a former TU student-athlete having played baseball from 1987-1990, met Jody as an undergraduate student. Together, they raised four daughters, all competitive athletes from youth through college. Their shared belief in the power of sports to shape young people inspired their investment in the Excellence Earned Campaign.

"Towson has always been a special place for me," Mark shared. "Playing baseball and being a member of the 1988 East Coast Conference Championship team was an experience I will never forget. Baseball and Towson were life changing for me, and it's where friendships were made, and I still see many of my teammates some 36-years later. We hope our gift encourages others to remember how TU shaped their lives and inspires them to give back."

The Ebers pledged their support in April 2025 during TU's Big Give, a day of giving that generated record-setting results for the university. Their leadership gift sparked the momentum that inspired others to step forward, ultimately raising $727,000 during the Big Give for TU Athletics.

"Student-Athletes need a space to build community, not only within their teams, but with the other sports as well," said Jody. "This new space will encourage those friendships and allow the TU athletics community to thrive. Athletics shaped so much of our daughters'' lives, and we know the role it plays in building confidence, discipline, and teamwork."

The Campaign for Excellence officially launched in November 2024. Phase 1 includes $28 million of enhancements, including expanding and modernizing the Field House through renovations to more than 17,000 square feet of existing space and the addition of 12,600 square feet. Upgrades will expand team meeting rooms, enhance the Soistman Athletics Academic Achievement Center and training room, and create a Fueling Zone to support student-athletes' nutritional needs.

In addition, Phase 1 will unify the weight rooms and turf training areas, to become a state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center, designed to serve all 500+ TU student-athletes across 19 sports. Groundbreaking for Phase 1 is planned for Spring 2026.

"We are incredibly grateful to Mark and Jody for their leadership and generosity," said Dr. Steve Eigenbrot, Vice President for Athletics. "Their belief in the Campaign for Excellence demonstrates how transformational this project will be, not just for one team, but for all student-athletes at Towson. This commitment elevates our program and helps ensure that our student-athletes have the very best opportunities to compete and grow."

Phase 2 of the project will focus on transforming the Towson Center Gym. Plans call for the addition of two enclosed court spaces and a 15,000-square-foot indoor turf area.

"Mark and Jody embody the spirit of Towson University," said Towson University President, Dr. Mark Ginsberg. "Their generosity reflects a deep commitment to our student-athletes and the entire campus community. Investments like theirs provide the foundation for the bold vision we have for athletics at Towson. Because of their leadership, TU Athletics will shine even brighter and continue to inspire pride among our students, alumni, and supporters."

With this transformational commitment, Mark and Jody Eber join a growing community of alumni and friends who are investing in Towson University Athletics and ensuring that TU's student-athletes have the resources, facilities, and opportunities to succeed at the highest level.
