LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Towson University cross country team completed the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Friday, placing ninth overall. The Tigers totaled 255 points, an improvement from last year's 264-point finish.
"It was a fantastic day for us as a team," noted coach Evan Freeman. "We had five freshmen in our lineup, and we returned eight runners that raced. The future is really bright for this group. This is the best performance we've had at a CAA Championship in four years, and we're only going to continue to get better from here. I'm very proud of our team and the season that we had, and we did a fantastic job overcoming adversity today."
Towson's five scoring runners ran an average time of 22:56 on the course and crossed the finish line within 24.50 seconds of each other.
Junior Baara Stewart led the Tigers, finishing 61st overall with a time of 22:42.30. Rebekka Hillier followed, taking 64th place after clocking 22:53.10.
Anna Amato was the third runner in Black & Gold to cross the line in 65th place, posting a time of 22:53.70. Camille Swirsding took 70th place and a new 6k personal best, running 23:04.00.
Mari Collick rounded out Towson's scoring five in 75th place, crossing the line for a 23:06.70 finish and a new personal best.
Freshmen Skylar Pizzulli (23:08.30) and Addison Mau (23:39.50) additionally turned in personal best times. Whitney Duhon rounded out Towson's lineup, finishing the race in 24:12.30.
