WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson University women's basketball team faced Northeastern in the opening round of the Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C. The Tigers (11-19, 8-10 CAA) built on their six-point first quarter lead over the course of the game to win 67-44 over the Huskies (3-24, 2-16 CAA).
The Towson defense held Northeastern to a 26.7% field goal percentage in the game and used their 42 first half points to build a 16-point lead at the break. The Tigers maintained their lead and built on it in the second half for the 67-44 win.

How it Happened
- Six Tigers scored in the opening quarter to build a 19-13 lead after ten minutes of play. Anasia Staton scored nine of the Tigers final 11 in the period.
- After another made three from Staton to start the second quarter, Northeastern scored six of the next eight points to cut the Towson lead to four at 23-19.
- The Tigers closed the quarter on a 19-7 run to take a 16-point lead into halftime.
- Deja Bristol and Anaiah Jenkins hit the Black & Gold's first two baskets of the second half. Jenkins' layup at 7:38 extended Towson's lead to 46-28.
- Staton, India Johnston and Khady Leye each hit shots in the closing minutes of the quarter to make it a 52-38 score.
- The Tigers started the fourth quarter with the first six points through five minutes to extend the lead to 58-38.
- Towson closed the game on a 9-6 run for a 67-44 final at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.
Inside the Numbers
- India Johnston matched her career-high with seven assists in the game. Johnston didn't commit a turnover and added nine points.
- Staton finished with a team-leading 14 points. She's finished in double figures 14 times in 20 games played this season.
- Deja Bristol finished with 10 points, her eighth time in double figures this season.
