Track & Field Jumps to Fourth Place on Final Day of CAA Outdoor Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Towson University track & field team wrapped up the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Championships on Thursday with a standout performance, climbing from 11th place to finish fourth overall after accumulating 86 points on the final day of competition.

Originally projected to finish eighth, the Tigers exceeded expectations by finishing four places higher than predicted. This marks Towson's highest placement since the conference's expansion and represents the ninth top five finish in the program's 23-year history in the CAA.

Elon captured the championship title with 147 points, followed by Hampton in second place with 122 points. North Carolina A&T secured third place with 102 points.

In the heptathlon, junior Leeann Redlo finished second overall with 4884 points – the second-highest total in program history. She opened the day with a 5.62m mark in the long jump, followed by a 22.23m throw in the javelin. Redlo capped off the event with a time of 2:33.07 in the 800m.

In the triple jump, Kiara Murray secured a podium finish in third place with a PR of 12.20m. This leap ties for third all-time in program history. Freshman Aniyah Toppin jumped 11.82m in the same event, ranking tenth all-time in Towson history.

In the high jump, Leeann Redlo grabbed fourth overall at 1.73m.

Aniyah Toppin, Maya Tucker, Stella Anani and Cristal Cuervo grabbed Towson's third podium finish of the day, placing second in the 4x100m relay with a combined time of 45.14. This performance ranks third all-time in program history in the event.

Senior Cristal Cuervo broke the program record and set a personal best in the 400m finals, claiming first place with a time of 52.85. Her victory marked Towson's first gold medal of the day. Shortly after, Maya Tucker grabbed another gold for Towson in the 100m finals with a time of 11.46.

In the 400m hurdles finals, Spencer Settle set a PR of 59.67 to place third and rank fourth all-time in Towson history in the event.

Cristal Cuervo finished with another gold in the 200m finals with a season-best time of 23.62. Maya Tucker followed in third with a time of 23.83.

Maya Tucker, Jasmine Scott, Cristal Cuervo and Spencer Settle closed out the final day of CAA competition with a silver medal in the 4x400m relay. The group finished with a combined time of 3:38.31.

Awards Ceremony
Cristal Cuervo was honored as the CAA Most Outstanding Performer of the meet after earning four podium finishes, including gold medals in both the 400m and 200m events.

Up Next
Athletes ranked in the top 48 in individual events and the top 24 declared relay teams in the East Region will qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminaries. The first round will be contested at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
