Hays Named Assistant Director of Basketball Performance

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball team has named Chris Hays the Assistant Director of Basketball Performance, announced by Head Coach Laura Harper on Thursday afternoon.

Hays joins Towson after his most recent stint with Top Athlete, a private facility where he was the Director of Strength & Conditioning and Sports Performance. There, he led the design and implementation of all performance enhancement training and staff and facility development.

Prior to that, Hays was the Director of Men's Basketball Performance at Jacksonville University. In addition to his role with the men's basketball team, he also led strength & conditioning for the Dolphins' men's and women's golf programs.

Before Jacksonville, the Pennsylvania native was the Head Basketball Strength & Conditioning Coach with the Drexel Dragons. There, Hays oversaw all physical preparation, nutrition, recovery and holistic development in congruence with the Sports Performance team for the Dragons' men's and women's basketball programs.

Despite his roots in the Philadelphia area, Baltimore became his second home during his four-year stint with Coppin State from 2018-2022. Hays oversaw performance for both the men's and women's basketball programs while with the Eagles.

Preceding his head roles, he had a stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers as minor league performance coach and assistant roles with Louisville and George Washington.

Hays graduated from Slippery Rock in 2015 with a B.S. in Exercise Science, where he also participated on the basketball team as a walk-on for four seasons. He completed his M.S. in Strength & Conditioning at George Washington while serving as a graduate assistant with the Revolutionaries.
