Vision of the Division - An Update from Towson University Vice President of Athletics Dr. Steve Eigenbrot

Towson Faithful,

I hope this message finds you well and as excited as we are for the start of another year of Towson Athletics. Just last week, nearly 20,000 new and returning students arrived on campus to begin the 2025–26 academic year. While summer provided a brief reprieve, our Athletics Department has been hard at work preparing for another outstanding year, both academically and competitively.

Since our last message in June, much has happened at Towson and across the national NCAA landscape. As an athletic administration, we remain focused on our goal of providing a high-quality Division I intercollegiate athletics experience for our Tiger student-athletes while we continue to make thoughtful decisions that enhance their academic and athletic experiences here at TU.

One of the most significant developments this summer was the passage of the House Settlement in mid-June. This legislation requires participating athletics departments to comply with new roster limits, increases scholarship opportunities and permits institutional revenue-sharing with student-athletes. At Towson, our compliance team is working diligently to manage roster limits, implement the framework for institutional payments and benefits, and monitor NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) activity. In response, the Tiger Athletic Fund established the Student-Athlete Resource Fund, a new foundation account designed to provide enhanced scholarship support and NIL opportunities. This fund ensures Towson remains competitive at the highest level of collegiate athletics and all contributions are made to the TU Foundation and are fully tax-deductible with an immediate impact on our student-athletes.

Speaking of impact, thank you to the nearly 2,300 donors who helped make 2024–25 our second-most successful fundraising year ever, contributing more than $3.7 million in support of Towson student-athletes. Together, we also launched the Campaign for Excellence last November, a $12 million initiative to support $40 million in capital improvements on South Campus. With several transformational gifts, we have already secured $3.2 million toward these future enhancements. To those who have already invested, thank you for believing in the future of our Towson Tigers.

We are also exploring creative revenue sources to meet our growing needs. Our new partnership with Coppermine, a leading local youth sports organization, had a successful first year. By renting several of our fields and facilities, they have both supported their programs, provided additional resources for our department and given valuable community exposure to Towson University. We look forward to expanding this partnership with more access and opportunities ahead.

Our student-athletes are back, already training and competing with a goal of bringing the next CAA Championship back to campus while pursuing excellence in the classroom, within the community and on the playing field. This year, they'll benefit from several exciting advances:
  • Full access to a second weight room in Towson Center.
  • Expanded meal service on South Campus through our partner Aramark: four lunches, two dinners, and one breakfast weekly during the fall semester.
  • Progress on our new $2.5 million Towson Center dining hall, set to open for Spring 2026.
  • Anticipated groundbreaking for Phase I renovations of the Field House and Sports Performance areas.
Your support makes these achievements possible. Whether through attending games, purchasing tickets, donating to the Tiger Athletic Fund, or proudly flying the black and gold, you are an essential part of Towson Athletics.

Together, we will continue to push our 500+ student-athletes to earn their excellence each and every day. I look forward to seeing you in the stands this season.

Goh Tigers!
