TOWSON, Md. – Towson University's
Mikey Weisshaar has been picked as the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Player of the Year as the league released the preseason awards on Thursday.
Weisshaar, the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Year, is the CAA Preseason Player of the Year for the second straight season. He made the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team along with
Elijah Smith, who earns his first-ever preseason all-league honor.
In addition, Towson, the two-time defending CAA regular season and Tournament champion, was predicted to finish first in the CAA, being a unanimous selection. The all-conference teams and order of finish were voted on by the league head coaches; coaches could not vote for their own team.
Weisshaar, a senior attack, was the CAA leader in goals and points last year, earning 48 goals and 24 assists for 72 points, averaging 4.5 points per game. Starting 16 games, he also had 40 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
Smith split time between LSM and close defense last year, becoming a starter on close defense later in the year. The senior from Omaha, Nebraska played all 17 games in 2025, finishing with 19 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
In 2025, Towson completed its second straight undefeated run in CAA play and had a program record 10-game win streak. The Tigers finished 11-6 overall and 7-0 in CAA play, earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
