HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University women's basketball team visited Long Island on Friday evening to face the Hofstra Pride in the team's first Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) road test of the season.
 
Towson (9-5, 2-0 CAA) built a ten-point lead in the opening quarter before Hofstra (3-11, 1-2 CAA) flipped the script in the second quarter. The Pride closed the half on a 13-0 run to tie the game at 21 at the break. The teams traded the lead for much of the third quarter as the Pride went up three with ten minutes to go. The Tigers retook the lead in the closing minute of the game to win 47-46.

• Towson out-rebounded Hofstra 45-33.
• The Tigers scored 10 second chance points off 14 offensive rebounds while holding the Pride to five second chance points off eight offensive boards.

How it Happened

• After going down 3-0 to start the game, the Tigers scored 13 unanswered points to claim the lead at 13-3. Zoli Khalil and India Johnston led the Tigers with four each during the run.
• Hofstra's Sterling and Johnston each hit jumpers in the closing minutes, giving the Tigers a 15-5 lead after ten minutes of play.
• The Tigers got the lead as high as 13 at 21-8 on Kayla Morris' make with 5:37 left in the half.
• The Pride closed the quarter on a 13-0 run of their own to tie the game at 21 heading into the halftime break.
• The teams traded the lead back and forth for much of the third period. Semaya Turner led the Tigers with four in the quarter.
• Hofstra's Emma Von Essen hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of the quarter to give the Pride a 36-33 lead heading to the fourth.
• Johnston reclaimed the lead for the Tigers at 39-38 on a made layup with 6:24 left in regulation.
• Down 42-41, Turner and Johnston led a 6-0 Tiger run to give TU a 45-42 lead with 3:26 to go.
• Back-to-back layups gave the Pride a one-point lead with under two minutes remaining.
• Turner hit the front end of two free throws to tie the game at 46 with 42 seconds left on the clock.
• Thalia Shepard secured a rebound of a Hofstra miss and hit the back end of her two shots to give the Tigers a one-point edge.
• The Tigers forced a stop on Hofstra's final possession to secure a 2-0 start to CAA play in their fifth-straight win.

 
Inside the Numbers

• Johnston led the team with 13 points. She is now 26 points shy of reaching 1,000 in her career.
• Hannah Dereje finished 3-4 from the floor, posting six points and five rebounds.
• Tilda Sjökvist had a team-high four assists. It marks the tenth game this season she has had at least a share of the team-lead in 14 games.
