TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson University baseball standout,
Richie Palacios, is poised for his Major League Baseball (MLB) Postseason debut with the Tampa Bay Rays, making him the first former Towson player drafted or signed to make an MLB postseason roster in team history.
Palacios slashed .235/.330/.374 with 51 runs, 14 doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 57 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 124 games for the Rays. He played 115 of his 124 games at second base this season, fielding at a .982 clip. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native slugged better after the All-Star break, posting a .747 OPS with seven doubles, seven home runs, 30 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
Cleveland drafted Palacios in the third round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft. He played 54 games for Cleveland in 2022 and was traded to St. Louis in June 2023. After 32 games with the Cardinals, he was traded to Tampa Bay in January 2024. In his three seasons with Tampa, he's batted .237 with 16 home runs, 81 RBIs and 40 stolen bases in 233 games.
The Tampa Bay Rays host the New York Yankees tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Tropicana Field in Game 1 of the American League Division Series (ALDS).
