TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team is set to begin Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play this week as the Tigers visit no. 19 Monmouth at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 18 before returning home for a nonconference match up on Sunday, September 20 at noon against Penn.
The Tigers enter week four 2-4 after a pair of losses this past weekend against no. 5 Maryland and American. Friday's game against the Terrapins entered halftime scoreless before Maryland won the game in the second half. On Sunday,
Olivia Thunnissen scored her first career goal as a Tiger against the Eagles to send the game into halftime at 2-1 before American also pulled away in the second 30 minutes.
Thunnissen is one of multiple freshmen to make an early impact for the Tigers as her,
Stevie Schultz, and
Else Wismans have all started multiple games for the Tigers while
Ann Njoroge,
Lily Ippolito,
Katie Compton and
Jillian LaBar have all featured in multiple games.
Sunday's game against Penn begins a three game homestand for the Tigers which will conclude with a pair of home contests next week. The game against the Quakers is also the annual Own Your Roar Game to raise awareness about mental health issues. Own Your Roar is a student-athlete group dedicated to encouraging students and student athletes to advocate for themselves and end the stigma around mental health.
Scouting the Opponents:
The Monmouth Hawks are 4-1 so far in 2026 including a 5-1 win over no. 17 Rutgers. The 2025 CAA runners-up are ranked 19
th in the NCAA by the NFHCA entering this week. Milla Frye paces the Hawks with eight goals and three assists through five games this year.
The Penn Quakers are 1-2 to begin this season after defeating La Salle 7-1 this past Sunday. Reese Czajkowski and Lucy Mangat lead the way for Penn with five points each through three games.
