Football Rises to Top-16 in the National Rankings

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team has come back to the top-16 nationally after its vital victory over Elon.

Towson vaults to No. 15 in the STATS FCS Poll and to No. 16 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches Poll.

The Tigers have earned a spot in the STATS FCS Poll for the last eight weeks and are in the AFCA Coaches Poll for the seventh straight week.  Towson rose five spots in the latest STATS poll and four in the AFCA rankings.

The Black & Gold is coming off its first victory over a top-5 opponent since 2013 on Saturday, crushing then No. 7/5 Elon 41-10 in North Carolina.  It is Towson's third victory over a then-top-15 opponent, including victories over Stony Brook, currently at No. 10 in both polls, and Villanova.

The Tigers stand at 7-3 overall and are tied for second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) at 5-2.  The three losses came to an FBS opponent and two teams placed first and tied for second in the CAA.

These polls set up a battle for the ages on Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas® Stadium as No. 15/16 Towson hosts No. 7/8 James Madison at 2 p.m.  Tickets are available now by calling 1-855-TU-Tiger or by emailing 4tigertix@towson.edu.
