TOWSON, Md. ? For the second straight season, the Tigers battled Georgia State to a second overtime period. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the result was similar as the Panthers won their second straight game with a 2-1 victory over Towson at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Senior forward Kay Harbrueger scored the game-winning goal with 2:41 remaining in the second overtime period as the Panthers overcame a strong comeback effort from the Tigers.
The second-leading scorer in NCAA Division I, Harbrueger scored her CAA-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season at the 107:19 mark when she took a pass from freshman defender Lani Huntley on a breakaway and shot to the far post. It was Harbrueger's 15th goal of the season and the 11th game-winning goal of her career, which ranks third in Panthers' history.
Georgia State took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when sophomore forward Apryl Goodwin scored her fifth goal of the season by converting passes from freshman Erinique Owens and senior Kara Vezza.
Midway through the second half, the Tigers tied the game at 1-1 when freshman midfielder Courtney McKee scored the first goal of her college career, an unassisted marker past sophomore goalkeeper Heidi Blankenship.
In the first overtime period, the Panthers had the only scoring opportunity when Goodwin was stopped by freshman goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak on a close shot in the goal area.
