Tigers Edged by Georgia State in 2OT, 2-1

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. - Despite an historic goal from senior forward Erica Marshall, the Tigers (5-9-1, 1-5-0) dropped a 2-1 double overtime loss against Georgia State (7-4-3, 1-3-2) in a Colonial Athletic Association game on Sunday afternoon.

Marshall, who scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season, became the fifth player in school history to reach 50 career points. After scoring the 21st goal of her college career, she now has 51 career points.

With 10:02 remaining in the first half, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead when freshman Sarah Bennett scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from freshman defender Erin Hill.

The Panthers held the lead until the 84th minute when Marshall tied the game by scoring an unassisted marker past junior goalkeeper Heidi Blankenship.

The Panthers had two chances to take the lead in the final six minutes of regulation, but were unable to reach the goal, sending the game into overtime.

With 4:11 remaining in the first overtime period, sophomore defender Bri Cagle had a chance to win the game for Georgia State, but sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak made one of her season-high nine saves to protect the 1-1 tie and send the game into a second overtime period.

Less than four minutes into the second extra period, junior forward Apryl Goodwin gave the Panthers the victory when she scored off a header pass from freshman midfielder Jocelyn Baker. It was Goodwin's fifth goal of the year.

Blankenship recorded six saves for Georgia State, which snapped a six-game winless streak with the victory.

The Panthers outshot the Tigers by a 17-12 margin.

The Tigers will return home on Friday afternoon to host the University of Delaware at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the Panthers will continue their four-game homestand against Northeastern on Friday night.
