February 8, 2009 - Hofstra 56-Towson 53 |
Tiger Update: Towson opened CAA play with a 60-46 victory over George Mason ... the Tigers placed three players in double figures led by Haliena Snowden ... Snowden posted her second career "double-double" with career highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds ... Shanae Baker-Brice continues to lead the Tigers as she is averaging 17.7 points per game with 52 assists.
Pride Update: Hofstra has dropped three straight following a 55-48 loss at the hands of William & Mary on Sunday ... Shante Evans posted her sixth "double-double" of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds on Sunday ... on the season Evans leads the Pride as she is averaging 13.2 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Series History: Today's game will be 50th in the all-time series between the two schools. Towson holds a 25-24 lead in the series despite the fact that Hofstra took both meetings last season. The Tigers had won three straight in the series prior to last year's action.
Double Your Pleasure: Senior forward Haliena Snowden posted a "double-double" against George Mason. Snowden had a career-high 18 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the contest. It was the second "double-double" of her career, the first came earlier this season against Loyola.
I'll Take That: Senior guard Shanae Baker-Brice needs just 27 more steals to move into a tie with former teammate Alis Freeman (278) for second on the career steals list at Towson. She needs just 26 more steals to join Freeman in the CAA top ten for career steals. Baker-Brice is first among active career steals leaders in the CAA.
CAA ACTIVE CAREER STEALS LEADERS
Shanae Baker-Brice - Towson 251
Gabriela Marginean - Drexel 167
Candace Walker - UNCW 160
Kita Waller - VCU 151
La'Tavia Rorie - VCU 140
50 below: In four of the Tigers' last five wins the team has proven to be tough defensively. Towson has held opponents to less then 50 points in all of those games expect the Maryland contest where it surrendered 55.
What's On Tap?: Towson remains on the road to visit VCU on Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. contest ... the Tigers return home following that game to host James Madison on January 14 before heading back on the road to visit Georgia State.
