TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Joe Mills won the 200-yard backstroke but visiting William & Mary claimed first place in 14 events to earn a 201-70 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson University (0-1) in the Tigers' home opener at Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Mills earned the victory in the 200-yard backstroke after turning in a time of 1:57.38.
"For this early in the season, I thought our team performed very well today," said Towson Coach Pat Mead. "We had some outstanding efforts turned in today."
Junior Cory Ornstein earned second place in the 1000-yard freestyle by turning in a time of 10:02.99 while junior Jim Buck followed in fourth place with a time of 10:03.73.
Mills earned second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.08 seconds before freshman Jacob Huston won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.18 seconds.
Junior Wesley Foltz placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.37) while sophomore Ian Zelaya earned fourth place in the event by turning in a time of 2:01.69.
Huston earned second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.13 before Ornstein placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.41. Foltz earned second place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.63 seconds.
The Tigers ended the meet by finishing third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.09.
The Tigers will host Georgetown and East Carolina in a double dual meet on October 23 at Burdick Pool at 1 p.m.
