Tigers Earn 0-0 Draw at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. - Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak made nine saves, including a pair of stops late in the second overtime period, as the Tigers (5-5-3, 1-2-1) posted their third tie of the season, a 0-0 double overtime draw against Virginia Commonwealth University (4-5-3, 0-3-1) at the Rams' Sports Backers Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

All three of the Tigers' ties this season have been by 0-0 scores. In addition, it marked the 13th game this season decided by a goal or less.

Papciak, who earned her CAA-leading sixth shutout of the season, made five of her nine saves in the second overtime period as VCU outshot the Tigers by a 6-3 margin in the final period. She stopped a pair of chances by sophomore forward Lauryn Hutchinson in the final three minutes, including a shot with 54 seconds remaining.

But, the Tigers also had several chances in the final minutes of the game. With six minutes in the second overtime period, senior defender Melissa Gomes took a shot that was blocked by the Ram defense. The rebound went to sophomore forward Cheyenne Skidmore, who took a shot from six yards out that was stopped by freshman goalkeeper Megan Lynch.

Then, junior defender Kim Speese took a shot with four minutes left from 20 yards that hit the left goalpost.

Lynch made three saves for the Rams, who are winless in their last five matches.

The Rams outshot Towson by a 17-12 margin, including a 7-2 count in the first half.

The Tigers will continue their three-game road trip on Friday night when they travel to Hofstra University for a 7 p.m. game against the Pride. Meanwhile, the Rams will play at UNC Wilmington on Friday night.
