#21 Maryland Defeats Tigers, 72-47

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - #21 Maryland used a 15-3 run mid-way through the second half to pull away from the Tigers and post a 72-47 victory on Thursday night. Towson (1-2) got 13 points and seven rebounds from Deree Fooks in the contest.

"I'm proud of our kids and how hard they played through the first 25 minutes of this game," said Coach Joe Mathews. "Five of our first eight kids where experiencing this type of big-game environment for the first time."

The Terps opened the game on a 9-4 run behind a three-pointer from Anjale Barrett. The Tigers made it a 9-8 game with 16:21 to play in the half as Jaleesa Dryver knocked down a lay-up. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes. Sheree Ledbetter converted a three-point play at 13:38 to tie the game at 15-15. Maryland pushed its lead back to 21-15 with 10:55 to play in the half as Tianna Hawkins hit a pair of jumpers. That basket at 10:55 was the last either team would hit until 7:27, when Fooks connected on a jumper for the Tigers.

Maryland would push its lead back to eight, with 6:29 to go in the half. Towson closed the half on a 9-4 run to make it a 29-26 game at the break. Krystal Parnell converted a three-point play for the Tigers to start that run. Towson finished the first half shooting 50% from the floor.

Towson started the second half on a 7-6 run to make it a 35-33 game with 15:23 to play. Parnell had four of the Tigers' seven during that stretch. Laurin Mincy hit a three-pointer at 15:06 to start Maryland's 15-3 run. That run put the Terps up 50-36 with 8:44 to play. A pair of free throws from Dovile Miliauskaite made it a 50-39 game with 7:29 to go. Maryland closed the game on an 18-8 run to claim the victory.

Fooks led the Tigers' with her season-high 13 points and seven rebounds. Parnell added nine points, two boards and three assists. Dryver finished with seven points, three rebounds and one steal.

Diandra Tchatchouang led Maryland with 12 points and nine rebounds while Alyssa Thomas added 10 points, five rebounds and five steals. Tianna Hawkins was the third Terp in double figures as she contributed 10 points and five rebounds.

The Tigers return to action on Monday, November 22 when they visit Charles St. rival, Loyola at 7 p.m.
