TOWSON, Md. – Senior defender Melissa Gomes of the Tiger women's soccer team has been named as a third team selection on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru All-Mid-Atlantic Region team, it has been announced by NSCAA officials.
A third team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, Gomes is the first player in school history to be honored on an NSCAA All-Region team.
“This honor recognizes Melissa's accomplishments on the field this season,” Towson Coach Greg Paynter said. “She was instrumental in our competitiveness throughout the year and was a true leader for our young team.
“She has had an exceptional career and I am proud of the impact she has had on her teammates and our staff,” Coach Paynter added.
A starter in all 20 games, Gomes was the Tigers' leading scorer this season with 11 points, scoring five goals with one assist. She scored a goal in back-to-back games against Charleston Southern and Charlotte. Gomes also scored a goal in the Tigers' 2-1 win over Old Dominion on September 26.
Gomes also tallied goals against Hofstra and UNC Wilmington and had an assist in the Tigers' victory at Northeastern.
A four-year starter for the Tigers, Gomes appeared in 73 career games and made 57 starts. She scored six goals with two assists in her career.
