Drexel Earns 5-2 Win over Tigers

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Drexel scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to earn a 5-2 win over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. Towson (17-8, 2-1 CAA) got a home run from Sammi DiPompo in the loss.

The Tigers got on the board first in the contest as DiPompo led off the second inning with a long ball to left field.

The Dragons' big inning came in the bottom of the fourth. Ashley Botelho led off the frame with a single. After the Tigers got the first two outs of the inning, a single and Tiger error allowed Drexel to load the bases. Amanda Bachmann doubled to right center clearing the bases and giving the home team a 3-1 advantage. Hanna Parrish followed with a double of her own to score Bachmann and make it a 4-1 game.

The Tigers got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth. DiPompo led off with a walk and moved to second on Stef Streets' base hit. Joyce Delp had a single to center field allowing DiPompo to score.

Drexel would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Bachmann ripped a home run to left field.

Shannon Johnston took the loss for the Tigers. She allowed five runs, one of which was earned on eight hits and struck out three. Katrina Gaudier earned the win for Drexel after giving up one run on four hits in five innings. Hillary Allen earned the save after giving up one run in two innings.

DiPompo had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Tigers. Delp had a hit and an RBI as well. Bachmann finished with two hits, two runs scored and four RBIs for the Dragons while Botelho added two hits.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, March 30 when they visit Georgetown for a 4 p.m. contest.
